History

First PBA logo (1975-1984)
The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is a professional basketball league in the Philippines founded in 1975. It is the first and the oldest professional basketball league in Asia. The league's rules are a hybrid of FIBA's and the NBA's rules. The league is currently headed by Commissioner Sonny Barrios.

The Philippine Basketball Association was founded as a "rebellion" of nine teams from the now-defunct Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA) which was tightly controlled by the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP; now defunct), the then-FIBA recognized national association. With the BAP controlling the MICAA, the league was de jure amateur as players were only paid allowances, much like what was done on other countries to circumvent the amateur requirement, and to play in FIBA-sanctioned tournaments such as the Olympics. With the PBA out of the BAP's control, they can freely pay salaries to their players, hence making the PBA the oldest professional basketball league outside the United States; however this also caused the league's players from being barred from playing in FIBA-sanctioned tournaments.

Leopoldo Prieto, the coach for the Philippines at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics was appointed as the first commissioner and Domingo Itchon of Tanduay was chosen as the league's first president. The first game of the league was held at the Araneta Coliseum on April 9, 1975 featuring Mariwasa-Noritake and Concepcion Carrier.

The league's first 10 years was known for the intense rivalry of the Crispa Redmanizers and the Toyota Tamaraws that is still considered as one of the greatest rivalries in league history with big names such as Robert Jaworski, Ramon Fernandez, Francis Arnaiz, Atoy Co, Bogs Adornado, and Philip Cezar to name a few playing for those squads, before both teams disbanded in 1983 and 1984 respectively.

Following their disbandment, the league moved from the Araneta Coliseum to ULTRA in Pasig. There, the league continued to be popular despite several remnants of Toyota and Crispa players suiting up for different teams.

During the mid to late 80s, Jaworski and Ginebra San Miguel became the league's most popular squad for its "never say die" attitude and had intense rivalries with the Tanduay Rhum Masters of Jaworski's then-arch rival Fernandez, and later the expansion Purefoods Corporation of Alvin Patrimonio, Jerry Codiñera, Jojo Lastimosa and Fernandez.

By the end of the 1980s, San Miguel Beer won numerous championships that included the 1989 Grand Slam under coach Norman Black and former national team stars Samboy Lim and Hector Calma.

Second PBA logo (Early 1985-1992)

In 1989, FIBA voted to allow professionals to play in their sanctioned tournaments, hence the PBA's players are now able to represent the country internationally. In 1990, the league sent its first all-pro squad to the Asian Games finishing a silver medal to China. The PBA would later sent three more all-pro squads in the said event.

The early 90's saw the Ginebra and Shell forming an intense rivalry that included Ginebra's walkout in 1990 finals against Shell and the team's dramatic comeback from a 3-1 deficit to beat Shell in the 1991 Open Conference while Patrimonio, Allan Caidic, and a host of others became the league's main attraction.

By 1993, the league moved to the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City and later saw the Alaska Milkmen win the 1996 grand slam and nine titles in the decade.

From 1999-2000, the PBA suffered a controversy after several expatriate cagers arrived on the scene (such as Asi Taulava, Danny Seigle and Eric Menk) and their lineage were questionable with most of the them deported for falsifying documents.

The arrival of dozens of these players was a counter to the fledging Metropolitan Basketball Association, a regional-based pro league formed in 1998. But, the said league eventually folded as expenses and ABS-CBN's abandonment in 2001 led to their demise a year later.

Despite the MBA's disbandment, and the arrival of those players to the PBA, attendance went sour and turned from bad to worst after a huge decline in 2003.

However, the league was able to gain some popularity by 2004, thanks in large part to Barangay Ginebra's run through three PBA championships led by Menk and Mark Caguioa, other marketing aspects and arrival of collegiate stars from the UAAP and the NCAA.

By 2005 the league became active in the national team role under Chot Reyes even when FIBA lifted the suspension of the country following the formation of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas despite a ninth place finish in the 2007 FIBA Asia Championship.

Family Feud a daily half-hour game show, will now be hosted by no other than Mr. Dingdong Dantes.

Dingdong has a lot of surprises up his sleeve for the upcoming season of the show. Aside from the big cash prizes and bonus giveaways, changes were also made on the show's set to give it a brand new feel. A more high-tech playing mode is also integrated to make Family Feud at par with its international counterpart.

And this time, the whole country can take part! A nationwide audition will be held for families who want to experience the thrill of being live contestants. The battle is on once more for two competing families of four; and we get to watch them as they try to outsmart each other with what the "survey said" in polls conducted with 100 people. Whoever accumulates the most points in four rounds advances to the "Fast Money" round where they may win the grand prize of as much as P150,000.

In the Fast Money round, two representatives of the winning family must separately try to name the most popular answers to five survey questions in 20 and 25 seconds, respectively. If the total combined score of their answers reach at least 200 points, they win the jackpot. If not, they get a consolation of P50,000 and return the next day as the defending champions, to have another chance at the jackpot which will have increased to P250,000.

The defending family has a maximum of four lucky tries at the jackpot, after which they yield the crown to a new champion.

Family Feud is all about points, winning streaks, and top answers. Which family will emerge as the winner at the end of the game to take home the jackpot? Who will pass, play, steal or strike? Well, the family that plays together—definitely wins together!

Noontime television programs were never the same again when the innovative and freethinker “Eat Bulaga!” saw light on local boob tube last July 30, 1979 on RPN-Channel 9 situated on Broadcast City.

The famous comic troika of Tito, Vic and Joey pioneered in hosting the program together with the equally enjoyable Chiqui Hollman. Until now, Tito, Vic and Joey are still regulars of the show that eventually saw different sets of co-hosts as the years pass by.

Now, “Eat Bulaga!” is celebrating its 25th year on television on the Year of the Monkey. The sailing was very, very tough but it has managed to conquer all the challenges and competitions that placed them as the top and front bearing noontime show on air.

In fact, “Eat Bulaga!” is now the longest program on air in the history of local television. And it is still going strong and continues to generate excitement on its everyday episodes!

“Eat Bulaga!” since its inception then has produced remarkable segments and discovered stars like Aiza Seguerra, Jessa Zaragoza, Donna Cruz, Allan K, Danilo Barrios and now, the phenomenal Sex Bomb Girls.

It has never stopped in fulfilling the dreams of an ordinary viewer and has given millions of pesos to its contestant from the segment “Kaserola Ng Bayan”, up to the equally famous and heart-pounding “Laban O Bawi” today.

The top stars and singers now have also been part of “Eat Bulaga!” Megastar Sharon Cuneta, Diamond Star Maricel Soriano and the likes of Ogie Alcasid, Dingdong Avanzado have been part and parcel of the noontime’s daily fare.

Hosted by the Bayani Agbayani, Ehra Madrigal, Grace Lee and Sam Y.G. a.k.a. Shivaker, Diz Iz It! comprises of five contestants who compete for 50,000 PHP daily cash prize by displaying their entertaining production numbers. The contestants are subjected into a dance competition, as well as a mental quiz game of basic common knowledge. Aside from the major prize in the Best in Talent segment, an additional 30,000 PHP in the game show proper awaits the participating contestant. Showtime is a top-rating ABS-CBN pre-noontime variety show which premiered October 24, 2009, replacing the long-running Philippine game show, Pilipinas, Game KNB?. It is also aired worldwide on The Filipino Channel. This show was ever successful and it led Vice Ganda, their unevictable judge, into great popularity. The show is broadcast from Studio 2 of ABS-CBN Broadcast Centre in Quezon City.

Format:
There are three groups, each made up of ten to twenty-five members (with no age limit), performing a single performance, whether it is a song and/or dance number or an acting performance. Before the performance, at least one member of the group is given 20 seconds to make an introduction in any way that reflects the group, but should end with the clause "It's Showtime!" After the performance, the judges, as well as members of the audience, rate the group from 1 to 10. Audience ratings do not count, but can influence the ratings to be given by the judges.

A fourth competition spot is randomly given to one of three groups who did not pass the auditions, but are still worthy to perform in the show. After the group's performance, the judges would give a collective yes or no to the group. If the judges give a yes, the group is considered part of the main contest, with the judges' scores to the group's performance to be included in the calculation for the winner. A no would, of course, mean exclusion of the group from the main contest.

Noontime television programs were never the same again when the innovative and freethinker “Eat Bulaga!” saw light on local boob tube last July 30, 1979 on RPN-Channel 9 situated on Broadcast City.

The famous comic troika of Tito, Vic and Joey pioneered in hosting the program together with the equally enjoyable Chiqui Hollman. Until now, Tito, Vic and Joey are still regulars of the show that eventually saw different sets of co-hosts as the years pass by.

Now, “Eat Bulaga!” is celebrating its 25th year on television on the Year of the Monkey. The sailing was very, very tough but it has managed to conquer all the challenges and competitions that placed them as the top and front bearing noontime show on air.

In fact, “Eat Bulaga!” is now the longest program on air in the history of local television. And it is still going strong and continues to generate excitement on its everyday episodes!

“Eat Bulaga!” since its inception then has produced remarkable segments and discovered stars like Aiza Seguerra, Jessa Zaragoza, Donna Cruz, Allan K, Danilo Barrios and now, the phenomenal Sex Bomb Girls.

It has never stopped in fulfilling the dreams of an ordinary viewer and has given millions of pesos to its contestant from the segment “Kaserola Ng Bayan”, up to the equally famous and heart-pounding “Laban O Bawi” today.

Showtime is a top-rating ABS-CBN pre-noontime variety show which premiered October 24, 2009, replacing the long-running Philippine game show, Pilipinas, Game KNB?. It is also aired worldwide on The Filipino Channel. This show was ever successful and it led Vice Ganda, their unevictable judge, into great popularity. The show is broadcast from Studio 2 of ABS-CBN Broadcast Centre in Quezon City.

Format:
There are three groups, each made up of ten to twenty-five members (with no age limit), performing a single performance, whether it is a song and/or dance number or an acting performance. Before the performance, at least one member of the group is given 20 seconds to make an introduction in any way that reflects the group, but should end with the clause "It's Showtime!" After the performance, the judges, as well as members of the audience, rate the group from 1 to 10. Audience ratings do not count, but can influence the ratings to be given by the judges.

A fourth competition spot is randomly given to one of three groups who did not pass the auditions, but are still worthy to perform in the show. After the group's performance, the judges would give a collective yes or no to the group. If the judges give a yes, the group is considered part of the main contest, with the judges' scores to the group's performance to be included in the calculation for the winner. A no would, of course, mean exclusion of the group from the main contest.

Overview:
Talentadong Pinoy (Talented Filipino) is a reality talent show. Hosted by Ryan Agoncillo, the show displays a variety of performances from singers, dancers, actors, musicians and comedians, to contortionists, impressionists, jugglers, ventriloquists and magicians. Similar to the Got Talent series, the contestants are allowed to perform any act they want. But the difference when it comes on judging panel, the judges give their opinions on the performance of the performer but the jury decide the winner of the show.
The show aims to display and advance performances considered as talented by the judges. The judging panel is composed of Talent Scouts (consists of three famous persons who verdict if the performers are passed on their performances) and The Jury (composed of about eight to ten ordinary persons with professions or occupations and are the main judges in the contest (Note: If several contestants are passed by the talent scouts, the jury will decide who will become the winner. Also, the jury is changed in every show randomly)). The contestants perform their act on the theater stage within 1 minute and 30 seconds. When the performers successfully do their act within that given time, the bell rings; indicating that the contestants succeeds on their performance. If the talent scouts don't like the acts of the performer, they simply press their respective buzzers and the curtain will be closed partially. When the contestants commit three strikes from the talent scouts, the curtain will be completely closed accompanied by the buzzer; notifying that the performer's act is terminated. Mostly seven competitors will compete if there is a defending champion while there are eight contestants if it is searching for a new defending champion. He/she/they will become the defending champion when the performer wins on the contest either by unanimous or split-decision by the jury. He/she/they must defend his/her/their title for five consecutive weeks against other performers. If he/she succeed on defending his/her/their title, the defending champion becomes a Hall of Famer.

MANILA - Viva Communications on Tuesday condemned the posting of a controversial photo of their talent, Anne Curtis-Smith, which has been circulated in social networks and published in a local tabloid.

Curtis, who was wearing a bikini, was dancing on stage when the right part of her top folded and accidentally showed her right breast.

The photo, which went viral on social networks such as Facebook, also landed in different gossip sites, blogs and tabloids.

The wardrobe malfunction happened while she was taping for the summer special episode of musical variety show “ASAP XV.”

Rumors have it that her former boyfriend and on-screen partner Sam Milby rushed to comfort the actress, who was shaking and crying after the dance number.
