Noontime television programs were never the same again when the innovative and freethinker “Eat Bulaga!” saw light on local boob tube last July 30, 1979 on RPN-Channel 9 situated on Broadcast City.
The famous comic troika of Tito, Vic and Joey pioneered in hosting the program together with the equally enjoyable Chiqui Hollman. Until now, Tito, Vic and Joey are still regulars of the show that eventually saw different sets of co-hosts as the years pass by.
Now, “Eat Bulaga!” is celebrating its 25th year on television on the Year of the Monkey. The sailing was very, very tough but it has managed to conquer all the challenges and competitions that placed them as the top and front bearing noontime show on air.
In fact, “Eat Bulaga!” is now the longest program on air in the history of local television. And it is still going strong and continues to generate excitement on its everyday episodes!
“Eat Bulaga!” since its inception then has produced remarkable segments and discovered stars like Aiza Seguerra, Jessa Zaragoza, Donna Cruz, Allan K, Danilo Barrios and now, the phenomenal Sex Bomb Girls.
It has never stopped in fulfilling the dreams of an ordinary viewer and has given millions of pesos to its contestant from the segment “Kaserola Ng Bayan”, up to the equally famous and heart-pounding “Laban O Bawi” today.
The top stars and singers now have also been part of “Eat Bulaga!” Megastar Sharon Cuneta, Diamond Star Maricel Soriano and the likes of Ogie Alcasid, Dingdong Avanzado have been part and parcel of the noontime’s daily fare.
Other memorable segments of the program are “Little Miss Philippines”, “Mr. Pogi”, “Beautiful Girl”, “Maid In The Philippines”, “Give Love On Christmas Day” and the controversial, “Sige…Kaya Mo? Sakmo!”
Years have passed, leaders have been changed and information technology is beginning to dominate the world and yet, “Eat Bulaga!” still manages to hand on. This is because it does not sit on its laurels after reaping more than 10 awards as best variety show from the Star Awards for Television from the Philippine Movie Press Club. It does not stop exploring inspiring and interesting portions despite the fact that it has maintained its top slot on noontime shows.
That makes “Eat Bulaga!” today as a daily noontime habit. Its new sets of hosts are equally remarkable and engaging and the segments are rousing and engrossing.
But what’s doubly amusing is that the likes of Jimmy Santos, Ruby Rodriquez, Allan K, Anjo Yllana, Gladys Guevarra, Toni Rose Gayda, Julia Clarete, Paolo Ballesteros, Janno Gibbs and Michael V. manage to jive and compliment with the wit and experience of the rambunctious triumvirate of Tito, Vic and Joey!
